After 3 years living in Paris as a student, I discovered plenty of activities that you can do for free in Paris and that roll over each year. Not only are they cost less but they happen to be my favourite animations.
Hope you find a glimpse of magic and that you’ll be experiencing one of them this summer or the next summer as they are reconducted over the years.
1) Outdoor cinema in La Villette
This is my favourite one. I’m not all a cinephile person, I barely go to the cinema once a year but outdoor cinema…in the open air, a picnic, friends and a sky full of stars is just the best. Can you reckon?
You can find all the program online, it usually alternate between comedies, thriller and action movies. Moreover, they display movies from Wednesday to Sunday. I personally prefer to go during the week but then it’s personal.
Just make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes before the movie starts to have a good spot. The movies start either at 9:30, 10 or 10:30 pm.
2) Outdoor Yoga and Swedish gym classes on the quais de Seine
They almost take place daily and are fabulous!
If you never tried Swedish gym class (I had not before), it is basically fitness mix with cardio and stretching, with commercial music on the background. I found it particularly interesting to get motivated and enjoy the outside during lazy days.
Urban yoga is also something I discovered recently and it’s even more challenging than yoga in a casual studio as it takes place outdoors. The classes take place on Sunday Morning so it’s not that busy.
Make sure to bring your own mat and get ready to flow 🙂
3) Breathe in Paris: Reiki, Pranayama and Meditation
Aka the discover of summer 2018. These are pranayama, reiki and meditation classes led by Susan Oubari during all the summer twice a week. They take place in Jardins des Tuileries.
You don’t need any previous experience, it is open to anyone.
Make sure to check her Instagram to don’t miss any detail. You can also read this Insta post I made about the event.
4) Free Museums in Paris
If you are below 25, you get most of the museums for free in France. Museums are a great way to get familiar with French history and culture. My favourite ones are Le Louvre and le musée du Quai Branly — for indigenous art and cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas.
If you are over 25, they are a bunch of museums that are free for the first Sunday of the month such as musée d’Art moderne, le Centre Pompidou et le musée d’Orsay. I recently went to le Centre Pompidou and enjoyed modern art (and taking pictures at the top — see the cover picture of this article.)
5) Best rooftop in Paris
There is actually one rooftop you can go to and enjoy the view for free. It is located at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. You just have to take the escalator for about 8 floors and that’s a wrap 🙂
I hesitated to put it here as it is not exactly an activity but it’s worth knowing it as the view is magnificent!
The last note to tell you that this accounts for summer 2018 and they might be slight changes for the coming summer. Feel free to ask me anything in the comments I’ll do my best to help you 🙂
All the best,
